Financial Literacy 101; Cash Flow Vs. Cash-Strapped

#SkillUP Call To Action

One of my goals for 2023 is to create a solid financial foundation. This doesn't necessary mean to become a millionaire, but to develop a pattern within my chosen lifestyle as a freelancer that will allow me to save and invest. Savings might occasionally be simple if you have a good habit; investing, however, is a different matter. Finding the right mix between investing and saving can be difficult, particularly if your cash flow is tight.

SKILL UP Master Session

Around March 2023, I would love to conduct a skill-up session for young people where we will talk about and decipher our unspoken financial paths. Currently I'm looking for a partner who we can co-host this session by sponsoring some of the items on the budget.

If you would like to join me on this adventure, please get in contact. I'm planning an event for young people, especially those from underprivileged communities who cannot afford to pay for this expensive training, whether it be online or offline.

This session aims to talk more about our experiences as "street school" while also looking for solutions from other sources and our own pathways.

The Cash Flow Or Cash-Strapped Theory + throughMylens

How do you fit into this diagram? Are you in cash flow or are you cash-strapped?

Take Note!

Freelancing isn't simple, and many people have started businesses for the wrong reasons, lasting only a short time before becoming cash-strapped.  I will share more as a facilitator if I am successful in organizing this session.

Work Place Series +throughMylens

 The viewpoint

Great ideas may originate from anybody, in my opinion, but they can also be squashed by those in positions of authority inside an organizations just because they aren't the original thinkers or creators of the idea. Just thoughtful!

Which of the following individuals is most likely to be given an audience in African settings and have their ideas developed further?

      A) A rich man with 'poor' idea.
      B) A poor man with 'rich' idea.

Note: In terms of ideas, I've used the term rich to denote great and insightful whilst for poor to mean average, bad or half baked. #MetaphoricallySpeaking #Generalization

Quote

"We will continue to underutilize our potential as human beings unless we reframe and rewire our views about how we see ideas, not just from their source but rather from the impact they stand to generate." - Wilson Masaka Whatever your current position is at work, you should develop your ability to express your ideas clearly, influence others' opinions, persuade them to support them, and have an open mind in the case that your ideas are rejected.

One thing to keep in mind, though, is to have your idea bank close at hand because you never know when you'll need it.

Self Awareness Virtual Session With Bora Mentors

This evening, I had the distinct honour of speaking as a guest speaker at the BORA Mentors Pool's monthly virtual meetup.

This is a group of like-minded people with similar interests and values of making an impact the society through mentorship. Together, they are leveraging their experien

ces, knowledge, and skills to improve society in their own special ways. Among the many inquiries I received, I would like to share the following two;

 Q1:- What do you do to promote awareness in yourself? Here is my opinion;

   1. Set aside time to be by yourself.
   2. Jot down your thoughts and feelings in a journal or using your preferred device, such as a smartphone.
  3. Express your ideas and opinions for consideration or response.
  4. Travel to new places and, in particular, try out some new or seemingly impossible things.
  5. Provide feedback and ask for it.
  6. Possess a flexible schedule
  7. Develop the ability to self-reflect.
  8. Set some flexibility in your schedule.
 9. Have time where there's nothing planned

 Q2: What are some subjects we need to share or talk about with young people, especially those from marginalized communities? Here is my proposal;

  1. Relationship :- When discussing relationships, keep in mind that there are various kinds, such as those with coworkers, family members, girlfriends and boyfriends, etc.

 2. Employability :- How to rekindle optimism in a faltering economy. There are many young people with all the necessary credentials but still remain unemployed. 3. Financial Education

4. The digital economy and literacy

5. Soft skill development.

6. Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR).

Thanks Grace Mbaye and team for the invitation.

The Life Of an Entrepreneur

Entrepreneurship is not for the weak of heart; it calls for a mindset that is prepared to accept all forms of failure, success, rejection, and disappointment as essential components of the process and worthwhile learning opportunities.

 The Vicious Cycle

If you're lucky, a few individuals will have faith in you when you first start, but you usually start off by yourself. People begin to follow you as you start to succeed, but when you fail, everyone vanishes in some mysterious way, albeit if you're lucky, some will stick with you all through the process. 99% of people prefer to be associated with successful individuals, if my calculation is correct. All types of people want to be associated with you if you are a big success, including the early childhood education classmates you studied with. The 1% percent are the folks who want you to succeed even though they haven't noticed any indications of it.

They will go to great lengths to include you in their success strategy. Strive to be a successful person by your own definition, but never regret your mistakes or rejections because they are what will push you to success. Instead, embrace the process and take pleasure in the moment.

+throughMylens // Consult

My name is Wilson Masaka, I have over 18 years of experience working with various groups from Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zanzibar. I'm a social entrepreneur with a goal to teach 5000 young people by the year 2030. I also work as a graphic designer, photographer, facilitator, and trainer. My passion is to work on community development initiatives that embrace many cultures, technology, creativity, and innovation.

I especially like making a positive impact on the lives of young people and children. I started Wilsen Initiative (Wi) in 2000 with the goal of empowering and educating young people to use their acquired knowledge and special talents to make a difference in their communities. Being a lifelong learner, my desire for providing high-quality education that aids young people in adjusting to technological advances is an ongoing endeavor.

I bring to the table values, expertise, and experiences I've gained from working in many contexts both domestically and abroad, which I feel will impact fresh ways of thinking in addressing pressing issues pertaining to the youth sector. Computer literacy, communication, problem-solving, and planning are just a few of the skills that are included.

+throughMylens is a freelance venture that seeks to create value by training diverse groups in 21st century skills as a way of creating solid foundations in readiness for the world of work both as employees and self-employed.

I provide professional mentoring, training, and consulting services for a fee in a range of fields, including graphic design, branding, photography, social media, story-telling, TOT, creative entrepreneurship, presentation skills, online research, creative ICT, financial literacy, blogging, project management, business model canvas, organisation change management and life skills training. My primary target audience consists of youth centers, community football clubs, community based organizations, youth-led initiatives, and any other organized groupings.

 The Gap - Knowledge Economy

I've been teaching, mentoring, coaching, and facilitating for more than 18+ years, and over that time I've come to understand the need to encourage a new method of learning in order to cope with the rapid changes happening in all industries. My point of view is, your schooling will mostly prepare you for some realities, but the "street school" will put your knowledge to the test as you learn new skills and as you prepare your mind to handle new obstacles that weren't covered in the constraints of the classroom. I love training young people on how to embrace existing and emerging trends in business and technology while also challenging them to think of the next innovation on how to solve existing problems in the society. I have deliberately set my journey to help the youth learn to learn while bridging the existing gaps using acquired knowledge, talent and skills in diverse field.

My end goal in any session is to build the capacity of the participants using the T.A.S.K model which stands for Tools, Attitude, Skill and Knowledge. My vision is to train more than 500 youth per year from marginalized communities with an aim of nurturing a community of a more informed youth who will create positive chains of events in different spheres of life using their talents, knowledge and skills.

Target Group

I'm willing to working with a variety of groups, and all of my content is particularly tailored to satisfy the demands of the client and the target audiences.

World Of Work - Jobless Corner

Life Series World Of Work - Jobless Corner Here are 9 things you should stay away from if you find yourself jobless, according to my many years of experience in the world of work.

  1.  Make an effort to please everyone in order to obtain employment. Learn how to network effectively, on the other hand.
  2. Try not to oversleep; keep in mind that the environment affects how our bodies and minds function. Establish a routine that will help you remain productive and, more significantly, that will support your mental health and your ability to think of solutions creatively.
  3. Despite being promised a job, don't wait around because promises can sometimes fall through due to foreseeable circumstances.
  4.  Avoid spending time at a jobless corner because you will almost certainly only find unemployed people there. Because they have a lot of free time, the jobless corner can be a common gathering location for people to "waste time."
  5. Watch television the majority of the time: As I previously mentioned, our bodies and minds adjust to the environments to which they are exposed.
  6. Without carefully reading the job description, apply for any position you come across.
  7.  Be anything to anyone you come across (jack of of all trade master of none). Meaning you cannot be associated with a certain trait, such as talents, a job, etc.
  8.  Diss your former coworker, your place of employment, your employer, etc. You become what you say to people, so be careful what you say.
  9. Don't turn down a job offer just because it doesn't pay what you were making before or what you expected. Be aware that certain jobs offer excellent experience and rewards as well as being a launching pad for your desired profession.
To help young people who are looking for jobs, I conduct a master class through the skill Up initiative. Contact me if you're interested in finding out more based on my range of experiences working both as an employed employee and a freelancer.

 Goal Setting! The top two on my priority list are;

  1.  The education goal (Learning Goal)
  2. The financial goal. "There is no magic bullet that will make you successful in the new year if you keep doing the things that caused you to fail the previous year." - Wilson Masaka, Youth Advocate Social Entrepreneur.

I'm a Doer, a Realist, and an Optimist

There are those who will advise you to keep working hard and never give up praying that all will work out one day. With all of your heart, embrace them, but keep your ears open to other possible solutions for what you need to do.

It's excellent to be inspired spiritually and driven to never give up, but the fact is that we don't live in the days of manna; you need to create an action plan and see your ideal success by the end of the year.

Along with encouraging others, you can also consider being a collaborator by recognizing the value in what others contribute and working to amplify that value so that more people can profit.

On the other side, you can encourage someone by doing anything you can to help them succeed, even though you might be going through a different struggle. I'm constantly interested in innovative concepts that can benefit everyone (win-win), which is why I created the platform Collaborate Africa, which is still in the conceptual phase.

 DID YOU KNOW

Your brain can produce over a million ideas per day, but you only need to connect with one of them for it to go through the growth process. In most cases, you don't necessarily need to spend a lot of time and energy coming up with an original idea that hasn't been tried; instead, what you need to do is take something that already exists in society and improve it by introducing a fresh perspective that addresses a specific need or problem.

Up Skill Youth Edition (Form Four Leavers).

On Wednesday, January 18, 2023, Makongo Computer College in Mukuru Kwa Reuben invited me to lead a session on personal branding, goal setting and business ideas. There were 20 youth, mostly female, who recently sat for their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams in November - December 2022.

Every year, many students take the national examinations, but the reality is that not all of them are accepted into the next level of education, whether it be a university, college, or TVET institution, for a variety of reasons, including poorer grades and financial constraints.

The Gap

Many young people are left across the street after completing secondary school education with no idea of what they can do or even what career options they can take. I'm a Mission-driven Freelance Tutor and Facilitator.

The Up Skill program, also known as the Skill Up program, Wilsen Initiative aims to train young people both inside and outside of the classroom in subjects that will improve their employment prospects, starting with 21st century skills like critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, communication, information literacy, media literacy etc. The 21st Century Skills:

Read more Information on https://www.aeseducation.com/blog/what-are-21st-century-skills New paradigm, Here at the "Street School," welcome. Less focus is placed on the 21st century in the normal educational system, and I want to close this gap by mentoring young people who will be both street savvy and academically astute.

Quotes;

"Even if you graduate from high school, learning never ends. Every day, we learn from a variety of sources that either confirms, updates, or disprove the knowledge we already have." - Wilson Masaka, Youth Advocate and Social Entrepreneur

"Being a lifelong learner and mastering the skill of self-learning (SL) are requirements for everyone who wants to get better at what they do." - Wilson Masaka, Youth Advocate and Social Entrepreneur

 The Target

By the end of December 2023, I hope to have trained at least 1000 young people. Never hesitate to send me an invitation for a quote if you require a youth trainer or facilitator. I'm an expert in graphic design, blogging, creative writing, photography, social media, training trainers, facilitation, and the production of digital content, among other things.

Here are some pictures from the session held yesterday at Makongo College at Mukuru Kwa Reuben.

The Wi-effect Success Highlight - The Year 2022 - 15th January 2023

Everything I do began as a dream, developed into an idea, and eventually became a way of life that I strive to see lived every day, especially when it comes to assisting children and young people in finding their definition of success.

This work has been ongoing for more than 20 years, and the passion keeps burning inside me to do more. The fact that many people are stuck at the stage of having a dream without any plan to make it a reality, which includes walking the talk or living the dream, means that implementing even 1% of a dream isn't a mere achievement.

Thank You For Your Support in 2022

Even if it's just a little portion of what we intend to achieve in our vision map, I don't take the support I've gotten for granted. I want to express my profound gratitude to my family, friends, and well-wishers who have supported me during several calls to action.

May God bless you and give you more life so that we may pool our resources and efforts together to create even more positive chains of events that will eventually change the world into the one we want to see.

The Quote "I would be very happy if my name is recorded in the book of those who didn't make a million dollars, but put a lot of work into finding a million ways to help the young people transition into prosperous stages of life." Wilson Masaka, +throughMylens

After all is said and done, the availability of resources and the support we will receive will determine our next event or activities in 2023. Three calls to action are planned, but anyone can contribute at any moment.
