IS IT LUCK OR HARD WORK?

Many people believe in luck while some believe in hard work and determination or both. Where do you fall? It might take a longer time or a shorter time before you count yourself successful. When we see people succeed from one opportunity to the other we rush quickly and say they were ‘born lucky’ is that really true? It might be, but a few accounted cases, but the latter is that luck without hard work is nothing (Luck – hard work = NO PROGRESS) you can’t sit and wait for your ‘lucky day’ to come, if you take that route you will die poor.

On the contrary you have to toil day and night to find the hidden treasure and for sure there’s one for you. Everybody has a purpose in this World and has got that unique talent or skills acquired over time. It’s upon you to find the intrinsic motivation rather than extrinsic motivation towards everything you do and once you apply the principle of hard work will see yourself succeeding thus Luck + Hard work = Success.

So what is Intrinsic motivation v/s Extrinsic motivation, anyway?

Intrinsic motivation - “Intrinsic motivation refers to motivation that comes from inside an individual rather than from any external or outside rewards, such as money or grades. The motivation comes from the pleasure one gets from the task itself or from the sense of satisfaction in completing or even working on a task”.

“An intrinsically motivated person will work on a math equation, for example, because it is enjoyable. Or an intrinsically motivated person will work on a solution to a problem because the challenge of finding a solution is provides a sense of pleasure. In neither case does the person work on the task because there is some reward involved, such as a prize, a payment, or in the case of students, a grade”. Extrinsic motivation: source http://www.emotionalcompetency.com/motivation.htm

• Is based on external contingencies, rewards intended to control, coercion, threats, or other forms of external pressure,
• Is based on attaining some outcome separable from the activity itself,
• causes people to tolerate an activity only to receive a reward or avoid a disincentive (often including fear, shame, guilt, or humiliation),
• Causes people to behave for reasons external to their self.
• Is instrumental, the activity is undertaken to attain an outcome, only as a means to an end.
• Can be responded to either from personal endorsement and a feeling of choice, or from reluctant compliance with external controls. The relative autonomy exercised varies greatly in these two cases.
• Only influences behavior while rewards are made available. Stop the pay and stop the play.
• Undermines people's intrinsic motivations under many circumstances.
So let us continue working hard no matter how long it takes for us to reach that ‘lucky day’.

  1. Luck and hard work is a two way traffic in that when one works hard, luck sometimes come automatically while on the other hand, when one falls on luck he/she will be determined to work even extra hard to get more and more.
On my perspective, i greatly believe in hard work than luck.
