The 'Elephant in the Room' at Work Places.

#OrganisationCulture #OrganisationChange #SkillUP #WorkPlace

Did you know there are many organizations that don't allow or empower their employees to ask questions?

At work places there are many status quo that continues to make many organizations under perform, one of those scenarios is that of the boss always being right. A boss (Manager, supervisor, board, management, etc.) can have the ultimate decision making, but to reach a more objective reasoning an avenue needs to be created that empowers the employees to share their insights.

Things can be tough in an organization that doesn't have supportive systems and culture to consult wider. As a result, employees end up working for the sake of holding their jobs but lack the required motivation to contribute meaningfully towards the vision of the organization.

Another scenario is in the case of organizational crises, staff would play in safe zones and 'sugar coat' a problem just to please the boss and forgot to focus their mind where is it matters most by giving an in-depth analysis that would save the organization.

Leading a team as explained above only contributes to the boss making the wrong decisions that would have been saved should there be a deliberate effort to listen, co-create, brainstorm, create safe spaces in the office for feedback etc.

The organization growth depends with the culture inculcated in every part of the organization that includes all the stakeholders without the exception of the staff. Any random approaches by the managers or board members creates a bad culture that stagnates growth or create a different misguided vision for the sake of survival.

Two of the great skills that I love based on 21st century are; critical thinking and problem solving. If you want to have a more progressive organization that saves itself from all the challenges spare time to train your team on how to be critical, analytical, become problem solvers and how to question which forms a big part of the equation.

These vital life skills will create spaces where employees would share their thoughts, experiences, knowledge, etc. without overlooking their current ranks within the Organogram and the biggest achievement is loyalty, high level of motivation, quality of work, creativity, innovation etc.

One of My Areas of Expertise is in Soft Skills Training

Here is a snippet of topics under Communication Skills.

Did you know how to A.S.K (Attitude, Knowledge & Skill) the right or ideal question is a skill?

 Insight: Our problems will continue to exist in different sphere of our life if we;
  1. Don't ask the right questions.
  2. If we don't know what is the right questions to ask.
  3. If we have the right questions but fail to ask it in the right way.
  4. If we miss the timing to ask the questions.
  5. If we don't listen actively to formulate a meaningful question.
Lastly, is the BOSS always right? that is a topic for another day.

Don't miss to watch Watch "The Learning Organization" on YouTube

Citation from online source; Richardson Branson - While the common adage, “The customer is always right,” is important, Sir Richard also follows his own beliefs. He is quoted as saying, “Clients do not come first. Employees come first. If you take care of your employees, they will take care of the clients." What I do, I help community base organizations and youth led initiative going through different transitions in developing sustainable systems and a more vibrant organization culture especially on change management that will lead towards learning organization culture.

Get in touch with me if you're a community based organization that needs more insights, knowledge, guidance and training from an external consultant on how to lead towards a learning organization culture.

I train on how to build a more effective and motivated team through feedback, questioning, negotiation skills etc. #OrganisationCulture
