So, when your organisation celebrates its next birthday, don't only count the years.
Take stock.
Look at the people.
Look at the culture.
Look at the leadership.
Look at the Board.
Look at the programmes.
Look at the finances.
Look at the partnerships.
Look at the impact.
And most importantly, look at whether the organisation is still becoming what it was created to be.
Because longevity is not the same as sustainability.
An organisation can be old and still be unhealthy.
It can be busy and still be stagnant.
It can have a respected name and still be losing relevance.
The real question is not simply:
“How long have we existed?”
It is:
“After all these years, are we still growing, learning, adapting and creating value?”
That, to me, is the real conversation around Organisational Culture, Behaviour and the Life Cycle of an Organisation.
