THE 2ND Edition Of The Annual IaM a sHERO

Football Competition and Skill Up Session.

This year we will have the 2nd Edition of the I AM a sHERO—She Can Football Competition and Skill Up Session (Life Skills) on 12th December 2024. Currently I'm reaching out to friends and well-wishers for support to make the event successful. You can donate sanitary pads, football, time, refreshment, uniforms, etc.

#POV The Change Maker Journey

It is one thing to be passionate, but it is quite another to have the resources necessary to carry out your objective and meet new obstacles. Overall, even if it takes years to realize your goal, you will never give up if you know and understand your WHY. #LegacyVision

As the co-founder of the IaM a sHERO-She Can program, I am currently in the position described, but I am determined to make it again for the U13 girls teams by hosting the annual IaM a sHERO Football Competition and Skill Up session (Lifeskills) on December 12, 2024.

Due to resource constraints, the event will be an invite-only one that will feature only four girls teams with a total of 60 players.

πŸ“Œ Call For Support We Can Do It Again, Even Better Than Last Edition.

I'm requesting my friends and well wishers to join me in supporting the forthcoming event on 12th December. So far we have 30% of the requirements for the event, and I'm hoping that we will have closed the 70% gap by 1st December.

Get in touch for any support. See the attached poster for more details. Inbox me for the next steps or email wilson.masaka@gmail.com.

School Holiday Exchange Program

#LifeSkill #CreativeArts #PlusOneTalent #FootballForHope

The Wi - Experience, the 'East Meets the West'.

On Saturday, November 16th, I was invited by Malezi Mema Soccer Academy, based in Kiambu County, to join their U13 and U15 teams in their routine gym session. This was a great privilege, and I don't recall the last time I went to a gym of this calibre; indeed, this was a once-in-a-lifetime event for me, which made me think of how we can also create such experiences for the child in underserved communities.

After the gym  session I led the skill-up master session on life skills. My lesson focused on critical and creative thinking, as well as how the kids may integrate learning with football.

I'm looking forward to the next session (experience) whereby we will have our team from Mathare North visit the facility, play football, and have a skill-up session at the location, which is something I know will be an eye opener and inspiration for them to see life from the other lane. We will also organise a return experience whereby the kids from the West will visit Eastlands.

Quote  of The Day Life Series Bits and Pieces #SelfMade

"You can't build the muscle by lifting the heaviest weight in the gym, you must master the art of gradual performance by starting within your range"  - Wilson Masaka

Safeguarding Children During Lengthy School Holidays.

 Parental Guidance 101 #Parenthhood #ParentGood

Safeguarding Children During Lengthy School Holidays: ( October 2024 - Jan 2025).

" Spend meaningful time with your kids so they can acquire the values and skills that society and education cannot provide. When you do this, your kids will be on your side no matter what and won't ever flee when you need them most." - Wilson Masaka

As of yet, there isn't a parenting school that can qualify someone as an excellent parent. In raising our children, everything we do is influenced by our past experiences, outside forces, our own creations, what we are told, how we feel, and generally what we have borrowed from many sources. Some things are best learnt by exposure and influence, therefore set a good example. You can't teach the kids everything.

I know in both rural and urban informal settlements, where children are left to play outside and only come home at sunset, keeping an eye on the youngsters can be extremely difficult.

πŸ“Œ These are a few questions parents should think about throughout the break from school.

1. Who are your kids friends? What is their character?

2. Where do they spend most of their time?

3. How can I make their time meaningful and fun?

4. What are they watching?

5. How are their spending patterns when I give them money?

6. How safe is your child in different spaces?

7. What are some of the repeat patterns?

8. What new things have they learnt?

9. Do they remember to read books?

10. How do you spend time together?

Remember, if you're too busy for your children, someone else will fill the gap. Be present, listen, guide them, and be the first contact person in any matter.

Football & Skill Up Series December 2024.

Good News 🚨

On 12th December will host the I aM a sHERO (She Can) Football Competition and Skill Up Session for U13 girls teams. We look forward to engaging a total of 100 girls during the event. Our main goal is to empower and educate girls on ways to cope within and outside the football arena whilst also pursuing the best levels in their education and career development.

One of the most essential items that enable playing is a football. The majority of teams don't have quality balls, and considering the state of our football field, one ball can't last for long, forcing the teams to find ways of buying a number of balls in a short span of time.

THE MISSION

I am a sHERO, seeking to inspire girls living in the underserved communities to pursue their dreams no matter the challenges they might face, which, to a large extent, can be managed if one is focused, patient, determined, connects with the right networks, and knows what they want. #SelfMadeSeries

JOIN ME TODAY!

I'm targeting by 12th December to at least have acquired 20 footballs. This might sound unrealistic, especially if I go it alone, but it is very doable if we join hands.

πŸ“Œ I hereby invite all my friends and well wishes to donate a ball towards the December holiday event.

Time Factor - Watch What You Feed Your Mind

 Life Series +throughMylens #YouthSpace Time Factor #SelfMade

Watch What You Feed Your Mind.

DID YOU KNOW?

It is easier to watch a movie, watch television, randomly browse the internet, play internet games and mobile phone applications, etc. than to read a book that teaches a particular skill or builds on knowledge.

Time management is a vital skill in an evolving world whereby your attention and focus are in competition with many other external factors.

Do You Want to Learn On How to Learn To Learn? #ToDoList #SelfPacedLearning?

Invite me for a skill-up master session with your youth group whereby I will share my journey as a lifelong learner currently self-employed going into my 8th year. Just watch out; if you're jobless, you're even at higher risk of being absorbed by other activities that don't bring much value into your desired career.

Nothing grows in the comfort zone, and if there's anything that grows there, then this would be the list of items that would grow in bigger proportion.

1. Lack of passion.

2. No learning.

3. Burnouts.

4. Time lapse that can't be accounted for

5. Same result.

6. Routine.

7. Unaware of what's happening in other zones.

8. Movement but no progress

9.  Entitlement mentality.

10. Zero innovation and creativity.

11. Boredom.

12. More reactive than being proactive.

And more...

Football Made Me Series

10 Football 'Rituals' During Our Time Playing Football in the Late 90's.

Some of these so-called 'rituals' still exist in the football ecosystem, from grassroots to top-tier leagues.

Here we go...

1. Anyone who wore a certain number of jerseys was for a star or must be good, for example, jersey no. 10. no.9...

2. The captain was always a top performer or expected to be at a higher level of performance.

3. Anyone who had dreadlock was just good by default. They were always in the spotlight and darling for fans.

4. Aside from dreadlocks, any other unique hairstyles could earn a player some spotlight in the field. For example, dyed hair.

5. Wrapping a bandage on your left hand not because of injury was also perceived as a mark of a top performer.

6. All left-footed players were very talented, and a rare gem to find.

7. Having the name of a foreign superstar as your nickname was also a mark of excellence.

8. Having quality shoes, and when it wasn't black in colour, it could also put a player in the spotlight and also could mean they are a top performer or star.

9. The jersey colour meant a lot, especially in inspiring confidence and excellence. If we had the choice, we could always go for our winning colours.

10. Going abroad to play in international tournaments meant that by default the future was bright for us as footballers.

Do these still exist? Or there are even more to add? Which number can you relate to?

πŸ“Œ Please share in the comments section.

Book a master session with me on how to run effectively a grassroots football club with limited resources.

πŸ“Œ Play Safe With Dignity Football Shoes Campaign

Join me in the ongoing football shoes campaign that seeks to equip young emerging footballers with quality shoes and relate material to play safe with dignity. I first wore my first football shoe in 1996 that was donated to me after scoring the only goal during a community football tournament.

Since then, I have been on the frontline, buying and also mobilising support from friends and wider networks to support my vision of donating a ball and a football shoe to U12-U15 teams, both boys and girls in Mathare North. Since the inception of the campaign in 1997, I have been able to reach more than 700+ kids and still counting.

I take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported all my calls and continues to support the initiative toward achieving even better impact. I look forward to this year's edition, whereby we also conduct a skill-up session and a football tournament.

SKILL UP MASTER CLASS.Time and Money

 Life Series Bits and Pieces

#SelfMade #LearnToLearn #YouthSpace

If there are two things you must track, that would be your time and your money.

1. Time: How do you utilise time, especially when you don't have an assigned task?

2. Money: The source and how it is used on different items.

DID YOU KNOW?

Your smartphone, internet, and related technologies can deform or transform your mind! Take control of your life and don't let the world of gadgets and related technologies sideline you from the real world.

 #TheDigitalGap #ThePowerOfYourSmartPhone.

I advocate for:

➟ Smart users who are also creators and lifelong learners towards creating a better society. #TheDigitalError

πŸ“Œ There are three types of people that are found in the internet space.

1. Content creators: they create different types of content on different platforms to either educate, entertain, inform, etc. They are also users, but smart ones.

2. Content consumers: these are people who rarely create content but rather find plenty of time on their plate to interact with any content.

3. The 'Zombies' are found on the internet and will surf the net to where the links would take them. They switch from one platform to the next one without any goal.

⁣⁣DO YOU WANT TO LEARN MORE?

Invite me for a master class session with your youth group where I will share more of the philosophies, discuss new ways to live within the digital realm, and, of course, share some of the wins with the intention of motivating the participants to kickstart their journey.
