Idea Sprint Mathare Entrepreneurship Program

I’m proud to be part of this incredible journey as a mentor.

On Saturday, 21st February, I had the pleasure of attending the final day of the Ideas Sprint, where I witnessed inspiring and innovative ideas from aspiring social entrepreneurs in Mathare Valley.

Ideas Sprint is a powerful and empowering model that brings together young innovators to collaborate in teams, learn from experienced mentors, and transform real community challenges into practical, entrepreneurial solutions.

It was truly inspiring to see the passion, creativity, and commitment of these young changemakers as they work toward building a better future for their communities. I’m honored to have played a role in supporting their journey.

šŸ“ Pitch Day

My Key Takeaways;

✔️ Start small

✔️ Use available tools

✔️ Be clear in your pitch

✔️ Simple solutions can tackle big problems in society

✔️ Understand the problem first — and fast

✔️ Ask yourself: Does your target group really need your solution?

✔️ Tell the story of the user (User-centric approach).

My Point of View

There are a zillion—or even more—ideas that may look similar. Your success cannot be based on the idea alone, but rather on execution (problem vs. solution).

Dare to dream, but have the courage to start, even in small and unexpected ways. With unrelenting passion and consistent effort, you will reach a point where it becomes doable.

I take this opportunity to thank the winners of the Pitch Day and to encourage everyone to keep going. The journey is just beginning.

AI Is Not Coming — It’s Here: Adapt or Decline.

Technology, Society, and the Age of Artificial Intelligence

When the internet, computers, and smartphones arrived at our doorsteps, we were warned about all manner of dangers. Of course, every innovation comes with both pros and cons. However, with educated users who do more than just consume emerging technologies, we stand a better chance of shaping a healthier, more tech-savvy society.

The World of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Artificial Intelligence is a true game changer in today’s society. It is already being used across many sectors. Instead of fighting AI out of fear that it will ruin our children’s future, we should embrace it by learning both its advantages and limitations, and understanding its real impact.

Here are five key reflections:

1. Human intelligence still matters in the age of AI.

AI depends on human input. How you think, learn, ask questions, and interact greatly influences the output you get. Commit to learning every day.

2. Shift from fear to application.

Rather than using AI negatively or resisting it, evaluate how it can support your industry, profession, or community—and embrace it strategically.

3. AI tool are not always free, but they are  accessible in alternative versions.

Not all AI tools are free to use, but many offer open or basic versions that are powerful enough to do meaningful and creative work.

4. Diversification is key.

Aspire to become a specialist with a generalist mindset—deep in your core skill, but broad enough to stay informed, adaptable, and positioned as a pacesetter.

5. Search for yourself, not just a job.
Instead of focusing only on employment, take time to understand who you are and what you want. Many well-educated people struggle not because they lack skills, but because they lack clarity.

6. Technology in education should be guided, intentional, and values-driven—used as a tool for learning, not a replacement for thinking.

Quote

"Human intelligence is not only still needed in the AI world, it is more important than ever. AI changes how we think and work, but it does not replace why we think, what we value, or who we become." - Wilson Masaka.
