Photography Through My Lens!

I love visual communication design which ranges from product design, animation, branding, photography, video  etc. As a photo enthusiast I love to narrow my subjects on people from the way they live, events, their environment etc.

My photography instinct started in 2009 when I was on an assignment to Zanzibar as an interim project manager where I bought the first Olympus digital camera. Since then, I have been occasionally taking photos for Nairobits and the Wilsen Initiative (Wi) activities.  I thank people who have invited me on a pro-Bono basis to take photos for them and people who have appreciated my work by sharing prompt feedback which is the greatest gift that I value.

I’m not a pro yet, but I’m on great paths of my learning and most of it happens by the philosophy of learning by doing and research on the internet.

Shaping and Sharpening My Career Path

I’m very humbled to start another 10 weeks of my career path in Creative Entrepreneurship course which began on Friday 16th May 2014. It’s a great honor meeting other creatives from musicians, designers, audio and visual experts, painters, sculptures etc.

The course outline

The course will cover a broad range of topic areas, linked at every stage with the actual challenges and opportunities of your creative life.  We will, for instance, link related issues of the Creative and Cultural industries to such areas as entrepreneurship models, explore the use of Communication and ICT, digging into the application of gadgets and tools, and unpacking social media; matters of branding, and more mainstream media will be covered under Marketing and Public Relations, while concerns with legal issues such as copyright, cultural policy in relation to the practice, or indeed, matters of sustainability will also be tackled.

A big thank you to the GoDown Art Centre for this great rare opportunities for creatives in our country.

With Juliani, Kenyan gospel artist who is known for his prowess in hip-hop music

DO IT, Talk Less & Do More Campaign.

Story Line T-shirt Edition 2014

The extent to which the young people have great ideas on how they can influence positive change in their communities through their skills and talents is amazing. But the big question is where do we go wrong?

When I reflect on my change making journey, it is clear that one needs to have great tenacity, focus and determination to move their ideas from a dream bubble to actual implementation.  Currently, I am still in the development stages with the Wilsen Initiative (Wi) project and I always need to re-fuel new energies through continuous learning, and keeping my passion in check by doing what I love.

Here are some TIPS from my journey;

  •  You need to develop mastery of your project road map by asking yourself the Why, What, When, Who & How questions.
  • Collaborate with like minded people and those who complement your skills and are passionate about the cause.
  • Use the Tell & Show principle; do something starting today with zero budgets. Some people ask how this is possible and I assure you money isn’t everything. You need to build a network of passionate team around you first before you ask for funds.
  • Start today, DO IT and you will learn new skills and meet learning opportunities through various challenges in the process.
  • Be passionate and love what you do.
  • More action than words.
  • Share your ideas, time and resources.
  • Keep on evolving with time.
  • Celebrate failures and use them as a starting point of new discovery and learning.
On 1st May,  a public holiday or day of festivities held in honor of working people called Labor Day, I launched the T-shirt DO IT edition which will seek to encourage a new generation of Doers, Leaders, Creative’s, Change makers etc, in our communities starting with implementing the simplest ideas evolving itself into a life changing project or business.

The storyline of the new t-shirts is called; Tell & Show -Turning Our Ideas into Action.

T-shirt design is one of my canvases for expression, and I love to connect with the series that involves personal and social transformation in making the World a better place.  So start your cause today, it can be through writing, singing or anything else that you love doing.

Wish Wall Series - Gifts to Self Discovery

Anything you do today was either triggered by a friend, family, group, community, a place etc. Always be grateful for the gift your received from your surrounding. I'm currently doing a series called Wish Wall.

Feel free to share your wish wall collage from notes you received from friends at school, during a workshop etc and some pictures which keeps you inspired to do what you're doing. This is the background of the making of Wilsen Initiative at its best stages of discovery.
