"We are living in an exciting period when your intention and attention are most important in shaping who you will become. We are wasting significant time in the internet era by clicking and scrolling, which predisposes many people to be content consumers rather than content creators." - Wilson Masaka, Youth Advocate and Social Entrepreneur.

Work Place Series - 'Gangs And Bands'

#MetarphoricallySpeaking #OrganisationCulture.

πŸ“Œ Hire For Attitude and Train For Skills.

As a consultant, I help community-based organisations build winning teams that enable them to form bands rather than gangs to achieve the organization's objective and vision.

"A wrong hire is like going on a long journey with the wrong type of vehicle." - Wilson Masaka, Youth Advocate and Social Entrepreneur.

I typically say it's an A.R.T. to form a winning team that leans more or entirely towards being a band rather than a gang in the name of employees.

Here is what A.R.T stands for,

A - Attract the best.

R - Retain the best.

T - Train everyone.

Here is what I mean by 'Gangs and Bands'.

πŸ“Œ Bands

- Will ensure that they work tirelessly to achieve the organisation's objective and vision.

- They seek solutions to every challenge they face.

- They appreciate the value of collaboration and developing policies that benefit everyone now and in the future.

- They will do the right thing when no one is looking, since they understand that their combined efforts will lead to the organization's success.

- Even if they quit the organisation, they remain good ambassadors.

πŸ“Œ Gangs

- Group to profit themselves without regard for the future, the mission, or vision of the organisation.

- When a problem arises within the organisation, they seek greener pastures outside before it is too late.

- They are more self-centred, and what matters most is the present moment.

- They will look for or create opportunities to take shortcuts and provide false indication of things to be running smoothly.

- If they leave the organisation, they see no reason to stay ambassadors.

Now you know, recruit people to either form or join an existing band, or you may create a gang in the hopes of making things better.

Time Factor, 24 hours a Day.

 Life Series + throughMylens

Which T - type are you? T  = Time

πŸ“Œ We all have 24 hours in a day, and how and with whom you spend it matters the most.

"Time management and financial literacy are two important skills that will remain a top priority in all generations to come. " - Wilson Masaka, Youth Advocate and Social Entrepreneur.

10 Inspiring Time Quotes

1. “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.” — Steve Jobs

 2. “Time is what we want most but what we use worst.” — William Penn

3. Tough times never last, but tough people do.” — Robert H. Schuller

4.  “ ‘Someday’ is a disease that will take your dreams to the grave with you.”  — Timothy Ferriss

5. “Yesterday’s the past, tomorrow’s the future, but today is a gift. That’s why it’s called the present.” — Bil Keane

6. “Better three hours too soon than a minute too late.” — William Shakespeare

7. “The past always looks better than it was. It’s only pleasant because it isn’t here.” — Finley Peter Dunne

8. “The time for action is now. It’s never too late to do something.” — Antoine de Saint-ExupΓ©ry

9. “Time will not slow down when something unpleasant lies ahead.” — Harry Potter

Annual Resource Mobilization Under Play Safe With Dignity at Wilsen Initiative (Wi).

πŸ“’Call For Support ⚽

Football Made Me.

I used to play barefoot when I was between the ages of 10 and 15, which is over 30 years ago.

The same struggle to own a quality ball and a pair of shoes persists in many underprivileged neighbourhoods, commonly known as slums. I created the play safe with dignity campaign to help the next generation of stars and teams by mobilising equipment and materials from within and outside my network.

I know it's a tough task, but simply donating a ball brings me joy since I know it will give the players hope for better days ahead.

πŸ“Œ Fact File

✅ Started in the year 2000
✅ Donated more than 700 pairs of football shoes.
✅ Donated more than 100 quality footballs
✅ Donated more than 30 set of football jerseys.

And many more...

πŸ“Œ How's this possible?

Every year, I give back to the Mathare North community where I grew up by contributing myself, with my family, and with friends. All well wishers are most welcome to contribute towards the mission that happens twice in a year.

πŸ“Œ Current call for support.

My birthday is on June 1st πŸŽ‰ πŸŽ‚. From May until June 1st, I am seeking support to purchase footballs, uniforms, and shoes for children aged U10 - U15 in Mathare North.

Note: You can donate partly used football equipment or materials.

🧺 Join me today; let us put a smile on the next generation stars, both boys and girls from the U10 - U15 teams in the Mathare North zone.

Freelancer On The Move

Work Series Bits and Pieces +throughMylens

πŸ“Œ The Freelancer On The Move. #ShowTell

It's either you're sending your bio, CV/resume or portfolio. If you send none of the above at least once a month, it means you are out of the picture and should plan your next move.

πŸ“ Do you know the difference, Bio, CV/ resume and portfolio?

πŸ“Œ The Employee.

Anyway, heed my life-changing advise.

Never abandon your dream simply because you have been employed,  remember to take breaks and always think of yourself beyond your current job because no matter how loyal, committed, passionate, or trusted you are, or if you are the linchpin of the organisation or company, if you die today, believe me or not, the company/organisation will continue.

I understand that ideally the organisation  / company cannot find your 'replacement', but they definitely will proceed without you, and someone will be placed in the role and in some case even before you're buried.

πŸ“Œ What Motivates You ?

How come you are committed to your job for the salary and benefits, yet when it comes to realising your dream or life goals, you fail miserably in practically every aspect?

Business 101

There are many reasons why many businesses don't survive beyond three months, and two of these reasons are a lack of business research and strategic planning, especially touching on financial projections.

Below are three costs that you need to factor in for the growth of your business.

1. Cost for starting your business.

2. Cost for operating the business.

3. Cost for scaling the business.

Usually, many people focus more on the cost of starting a business only, and when things don't work, they shut down completely or move to the next business.

How come there are people who have done the same business for more than 5 years and beyond and still do the survive any wave?

Youth Space

Invite me to a skill-up master session to learn more about how to think big, start small, and grow steadily.

Many of the things we learnt in school are no longer relevant, which is why we must be lifelong learners in order to build a fresh mindset to face current and developing difficulties in various areas of life.

The Youth Bulge.

During my primary education, we were encouraged to study hard so that we could be employed or, more specifically, get good jobs. However, the narrative has shifted, and our call to action should be more focused on instilling a culture that promotes a problem-solving mindset that will assist youth in addressing issues such as unemployment beginning at their doorstep.

Scanning the youth area, I discovered that youths fall into several groups, and we cannot continue to generalise their issues if we actually wish to solve or aid them in their progressive development.

Here are examples of various clusters in the youth space:

1. Youth in crime, drugs and ex-convicts
2. Youth in school.
3. Youth in sports.
4. Youth in employment (corporate)
5. Youth in government.
6. Youth in business
7. Youth in politics
8. Youth in the creative sector ( DJ, dancers, musicians etc)

Etc.

All of the aforementioned have one common word: youth, but many other things differ significantly.

Remember that neither the government nor the corporate sector can fix all of the challenges facing young people.  To address existing and new difficulties in the youth arena, all parties (business, religious sector, NGO's, philanthropists, etc.) must work together more quickly and meaningfully.

The Solutions #POV

Accelerated Meaningful Collaboration (AMC - Model)

Accelerated Meaningful Collaboration is my own idea that seeks to develop working partnerships across the sector in order to bridge gaps in youth spaces on a variety of topics such as quality education, unemployment, and underemployment, to name a few.

The notion is founded on the idea that the future is here, and that young people should have an active role in making it a reality.

1st May, Labour Day

Jobless but not Hopeless!

"A generation of jobless and hopeless youth is like a ticking time bomb waiting to explode." - Wilson Masaka, Youth Advocate and Social Entrepreneur.

The big question is how can we assist the youth in creating their own spaces without over-relying on being employed?

#YouthEmployability

UN SDG 8.

Sustainable Development Goal 8 (SDG 8) focuses on promoting sustained, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work for all. It aims to achieve full and productive employment and decent work for all women and men, including young people and people with disabilities, by 2030, with equal pay for work of equal value.

πŸ“Œ Job seekers To Job Creators

We will be freed from mental slavery the day we realise that the primary objective of education is not to gain employment.

I believe education is a model that aims to provide students with the platforms and resources they need to think, relate, create, connect, innovate, and explore, to name a few. A weak education system contributes significantly to the economy's shrinkage since students are more motivated and trained to work in declining industries rather than being part of the players who create new ecosystems for employability.

In conclusion

Our emphasis should be on self-employment and problem solving rather than waiting for career opportunities that never come, and even if they do, the knowledge obtained by the time we graduate will be out of date. If we don't practise and become lifelong learners.
