Work Place Series - 'Gangs And Bands'

#MetarphoricallySpeaking #OrganisationCulture.

📌 Hire For Attitude and Train For Skills.

As a consultant, I help community-based organisations build winning teams that enable them to form bands rather than gangs to achieve the organization's objective and vision.

"A wrong hire is like going on a long journey with the wrong type of vehicle." - Wilson Masaka, Youth Advocate and Social Entrepreneur.

I typically say it's an A.R.T. to form a winning team that leans more or entirely towards being a band rather than a gang in the name of employees.

Here is what A.R.T stands for,

A - Attract the best.

R - Retain the best.

T - Train everyone.

Here is what I mean by 'Gangs and Bands'.

📌 Bands

- Will ensure that they work tirelessly to achieve the organisation's objective and vision.

- They seek solutions to every challenge they face.

- They appreciate the value of collaboration and developing policies that benefit everyone now and in the future.

- They will do the right thing when no one is looking, since they understand that their combined efforts will lead to the organization's success.

- Even if they quit the organisation, they remain good ambassadors.

📌 Gangs

- Group to profit themselves without regard for the future, the mission, or vision of the organisation.

- When a problem arises within the organisation, they seek greener pastures outside before it is too late.

- They are more self-centred, and what matters most is the present moment.

- They will look for or create opportunities to take shortcuts and provide false indication of things to be running smoothly.

- If they leave the organisation, they see no reason to stay ambassadors.

Now you know, recruit people to either form or join an existing band, or you may create a gang in the hopes of making things better.
