Celebrating 20 Years of Community Service & Giving Back.

Giving Back +throughMylens & Wilsen initiative (WI) philosophy. Soccer Shoes - Play Safe with Dignity!

Every day I visit our community soccer field in Mathare North I spot a young star with exceptional talent struggling to make it happen.

Even though many lack the necessary resources they still enjoy the game unaware of the injuries they expose themselves playing bare feet. In the year 2000 I started the soccer shoes campaign to assist the young stars (Age category:- U10 to U15) and teams from Mathare North acquire quality soccer shoes which would protect them from injuries and play with dignity.

So far I have assisted many, but due to tough economic times and the number of children and youth, introduced into soccer there is still need of continuing my campaign and call for support.

JOIN ME Today! you can organize a pair for someone who needs it. They are many, but if we pull together we can make a massive contribution and timely impact.

Soccer Shoes - Play Safe with Dignity!

This is part of my mission I started back in the year 2000 through Wilsen Initiative (WI) philosophy of giving back Join me today, get in touch with me in case you want to donate a pair. wilson.masaka@gmail.com

Mathare North Soccer' Featuring Women's Soccer the Year 2008, Drive Inn Primary School.

Did you know Mathare North had one of the best women's football teams in Kenya? That team goes by the name Otto-Benecker F.C. The reason I consider Otto-Benecker F.C as one of the best women's teams in Kenya is that;
  1.  They have won many local Women's soccer tournaments.
  2. A good number of players have taken part in the annual Norway cup, in Norway through the Mathare Youth Sports Association (MYSA)
  3. A good number of players have played in the National team, Harambee Starlets.
  4. They have produced soccer administrators and referees.
  5. Many of the players represented their school teams to the national and regional levels. Just to highlight a few achievements!
Currently the big contrast is that we don't have a women's team in our community and it's rare to find more than two players training in the field. What happened? I don't blame the former players neither do I blame the former managements.

If you take a deep drive into Women's soccer Kenya you will understand why we experience the current situation. There are lots of stories that aren't highlighted especially of Women's / girls dreams, pain, suffering, lack of support, no remuneration, no funds, frustrations, lack of facilities etc.

" Playing soccer that doesn't guarantee the desired future or doesn't support the ladies livelihood is one of the areas that has led to a shape decline of girl's /women playing soccer in most neighborhoods." Kate Syprine ex-soccer player.

#WomenInSoccerDeserveBetter Despite all the tough challenges, I want to appreciate Otto-Benecker F.c for their rescilience during their time. I acknowledge the efforts you have made to make it through soccer and there are some players who achieved other opportunities through soccer. Those who are still playing never lose hope.

I would urge you to pursue education, play soccer not has the main thing unless you want to pursue oversee opportunities but also think of entrepreneurship model that you can have while playing. May God bless your journey, and thanks for representing our community.

The 'Elephant in the Room' at Work Places.

#OrganisationCulture #OrganisationChange #SkillUP #WorkPlace

Did you know there are many organizations that don't allow or empower their employees to ask questions?

At work places there are many status quo that continues to make many organizations under perform, one of those scenarios is that of the boss always being right. A boss (Manager, supervisor, board, management, etc.) can have the ultimate decision making, but to reach a more objective reasoning an avenue needs to be created that empowers the employees to share their insights.

Things can be tough in an organization that doesn't have supportive systems and culture to consult wider. As a result, employees end up working for the sake of holding their jobs but lack the required motivation to contribute meaningfully towards the vision of the organization.

Another scenario is in the case of organizational crises, staff would play in safe zones and 'sugar coat' a problem just to please the boss and forgot to focus their mind where is it matters most by giving an in-depth analysis that would save the organization.

Leading a team as explained above only contributes to the boss making the wrong decisions that would have been saved should there be a deliberate effort to listen, co-create, brainstorm, create safe spaces in the office for feedback etc.

The organization growth depends with the culture inculcated in every part of the organization that includes all the stakeholders without the exception of the staff. Any random approaches by the managers or board members creates a bad culture that stagnates growth or create a different misguided vision for the sake of survival.

Solutions +throughMylens

Two of the great skills that I love based on 21st century are; critical thinking and problem solving. If you want to have a more progressive organization that saves itself from all the challenges spare time to train your team on how to be critical, analytical, become problem solvers and how to question which forms a big part of the equation.

These vital life skills will create spaces where employees would share their thoughts, experiences, knowledge, etc. without overlooking their current ranks within the Organogram and the biggest achievement is loyalty, high level of motivation, quality of work, creativity, innovation etc.

One of My Areas of Expertise is in Soft Skills Training

 #WorldYouthSkillsDay #CriticalThinkingProblemSolving #SkillUpMasterClasses

Here is a snippet of topics under Communication Skills.

Did you know how to A.S.K (Attitude, Knowledge & Skill) the right or ideal question is a skill?

 Insight: Our problems will continue to exist in different sphere of our life if we;
  1. Don't ask the right questions.
  2. If we don't know what is the right questions to ask.
  3. If we have the right questions but fail to ask it in the right way.
  4. If we miss the timing to ask the questions.
  5. If we don't listen actively to formulate a meaningful question.
Lastly, is the BOSS always right? that is a topic for another day.

Don't miss to watch Watch "The Learning Organization" on YouTube

Citation from online source; Richardson Branson - While the common adage, “The customer is always right,” is important, Sir Richard also follows his own beliefs. He is quoted as saying, “Clients do not come first. Employees come first. If you take care of your employees, they will take care of the clients." What I do, I help community base organizations and youth led initiative going through different transitions in developing sustainable systems and a more vibrant organization culture especially on change management that will lead towards learning organization culture.

Get in touch with me if you're a community based organization that needs more insights, knowledge, guidance and training from an external consultant on how to lead towards a learning organization culture.

I train on how to build a more effective and motivated team through feedback, questioning, negotiation skills etc. #OrganisationCulture

"If we want to prepare the youth for the future opportunities and challenges we need to pay keen attention on the vital technical skills that address today's need while providing future solutions without the exception of soft skill and lifelong learning as part of their development package." - Wilson Masaka Youth Advocate, Social Entrepreneur.
